Major player enters the CDU market, and Johnson Controls launches its 1MW CDU product

This month, the company launched a new Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) for liquid-cooled data centers, expanding its data center thermal management product portfolio.

The Silent-Aire CDU offers scalable cooling capacity ranging from 500kW to over 10MW, featuring a flexible design that meets the deployment needs of data centers. Each unit can deliver 1.05MW of cooling capacity (when using 25% propylene glycol) with an approach temperature of 9.4°F (5.2°C), or 1.4MW of cooling capacity when designed for water use, with an approach temperature of 6.3°F (3.5°C).

Notably, the launch of this platform is not an isolated initiative, but builds on Johnson Controls' existing thermal management product portfolio, which includes Silent-Aire, York, and M&M Carnot. According to industry data, since 2020, large-scale data centers have typically had to allocate over 30% of their resources to cooling and other non-IT functions, resulting in significant energy consumption pressure. Johnson Controls' relevant solutions can help most North American data centers reduce non-IT energy consumption by more than 50%.
